Christmas Photos

A few weeks before Christmas we had our favorite local photogs shoot a little family Christmas session for us. We had already had our Christmas cards made (using a photo from the summer) but I knew I'd regret not doing Christmas photos since it was our last Christmas as a family of three.

And I love them! Leyton was pretty uncooperative and towards the end we had to bribe him with a sucker just so he would stay in one place.

A day in the life...

I always love reading those articles in magazines that chronicle a day in the life of a certain person. Its fun to see what other people do even if they are just SAHMs like me. I know I am really going to like reading this when I have two kids and I'm wondering why I thought my days could be so exhausting with just one. So, hello to the me in 4+ months.

9 am:   I get to lounge in bed until 9 am while Scott has breakfast with Leyton and dresses him. I find them "working" together in Scott's office. I share my pumpkin muffin with L (they are his favorite) and Scott leaves for his other office.

9:30:   We play in the upstairs playroom for awhile. We race cars on the tracks he got for Christmas and dunk balls in his basketball goal. He beats me on the head while I sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes".

10:45:   We head downstairs so I can get dressed, brush my hair, teeth etc.

11:15:   Make a run to the post office before L gets too tired and cranky. I wonder how I am going to carry two large packages and manage to get him safely in the door without him darting into the parking lot. Oh, and I can't find his shoes so he's wearing only socks.

11:45:   All done at the post office and I am feeling super sleepy. Decide to make my one caffeinated drink of the day a Starbucks carmel light frappuccino so we detour to Starbucks before heading home.

12:15 pm:   Nap time! I rock L in his room while he naps. I love the cuddle time and can't bring myself to put him in his bed. I know I only have a few more months of this so I soak it up. I happen to have my iPad so I do a little web surfing while he sleeps. I find the perfect unfinished bookshelves I've been looking to put in the playroom!

2:15:   L is up and hungry so I make him a black bean and cheese quesadilla and a burrito for myself. I put away dishes and clean up the kitchen so I can cook dinner tonight. I keep him occupied in his booster seat by giving him a "ball" (what he calls those little cutie oranges) and letting him watch Clifford.

3:00:    Today is a good mail day! The rug for B's nursery has arrived along with a few other baby/ toddler things I had ordered. I also got a baby shower invite for a good friend in Seattle and I would not miss it! I lay out the rug in the nursery and I love it. Then we have more playtime upstairs. This time we color with our new all-natural crayon rocks. They are definitely a choking hazard so I think we'll be putting these away for awhile.

4:30:   Grandpa Jack calls and chats with Leyton for a few minutes. I remember the bread dough I have thawing in the fridge to make pretzel bites and decide I should bake it to have with our vegetable chowder tonight instead.

5:45:   Scott is on his way home so I start chopping veggies for our dinner. Leyton is really interested in what I'm doing so I put him in his booster and pull him up to the counter so he can watch. I read him the recipe and quiz him on the steps to make sure he's paying attention. He loves this :)

7:45:   Done with dinner and L is clearly ready for bed. He refuses to even try his vegetable chowder so he has cheese and crackers instead. (He is really picky!) Kitchen is clean and I make a cup of decaf coffee to enjoy while I catch the end of The Bachelor

10:00   Bedtime!

2011 Recap

This has been an incredibly blessed, successful, happy, fun year for us! I'm having a hard time recalling anything really bad happening...which is good! We ended 2010 with Scott having just started a new company called Orange Energy (while also working at a law firm). They closed the year with one local client and 11 contractors.

January:  Leyton turned 6 months old and we started feeding him solid foods. I really enjoyed making his baby food for awhile and he really enjoyed eating in general. We started going to Gymboree class once a week and Leyton loved it. He was so much bigger than the other babies his size. We traveled with my family to San Diego to see my brother graduate from Marine Corp boot camp. This also marked Leyton's first beach trip. Leyton also experienced his first snow.

February:  We had snow and ice that kept us cooped up for four days. Leyton contracted RSV and we had to give him breathing treatments several times a day for several weeks. (Ok, that is one bad thing that happened.)

March:  We painted our bedroom and installed wood floors ourselves. We also started shopping around for a company to build us a pool!

April:  We hosted a double couples baby shower at our house. Lots of fun! We took our first real family vacation to the Caribbean! We spent a few days in Miami before boarding the Norwegian Epic and sailing to St. Martin, St. Thomas, and the Bahamas. Leyton was very popular with the staff on the boat and he loved the attention and the people watching. Orange picked up a big client and we added 10 contractors to the company.

May: I celebrated my first Mother's Day. Scott got me a ruby/diamond pendant and matching earrings. I painted the guest room just before our Seattle friends came to visit and we had a really fun weekend hanging around Fort Worth with Toby and Lacy. (Ya'll come back and visit!) Pool installation began. Leyton, my parents, and I traveled to Virginia to spend the weekend with my brother. Hadn't seen him since the end of January! We spent Memorial weekend in Pittsburgh for the wedding of one of Scott's college friends. We loved Pitt and had so much fun touring the city, attending the wedding and catching up with people Scott had not seen in awhile. There were so many things we didn't get to do so we definitely want to visit again. We also added another member to our family in May. Zoey is a 2yo black lab and we love her. She is so sweet, playful, and patient. She loves to swim and fetch and lets L climb all over her. She is a big time cuddler and will push everyone else out of the way to get her fair share of a belly rub. Dixie, Dollie and Cash love her too!

June:  Scott spent a weekend with his Seattle guy friends in Bellingham, WA to celebrate a bachelor party. The next weekend all three of us went for a week long stay in Seattle to hang out and attend Cari and Warren's wedding. We stayed at The Woodmark Hotel on Lake Washington and drove up to Fort Flagler for the wedding. The weather was chilly and drizzly and perfect for stopping at all those little expresso stands - my fav!  We returned to the city and stayed a few nights downtown. Scott got to spend his first Father's Day at a Mariners game. We also went to our first sushi restaurant, got L's first haircut, played par 3 golf and rode the ferries. Orange expands to Kansas where we now have 35 people working on a project there.

July:  We spent four days in Sedona, AZ with Scott's family. While we were there we visited the Grand Canyon on the 4th - Scott and Leyton's first trip! We came home the night of the 5th and spent all day on the 6th preparing for L's big 1st birthday party! While we were in AZ the pool and landscaping was completely finished and we had the exterior of the house painted on the 6th. We spent the day of his birthday swimming at home and hanging out. That evening we met my family for a dinner picnic complete with cupcakes. It was perfect! On Friday, I picked up my best friend Caitlin from the airport and we went straight to work doing more party prep. Saturday was party day! We had a ring master on stilts greeting guests and a monkey who performed tricks and took photos with the kids. We had so many friends and family help us celebrate despite the HOT HOT weather. The next weekend we headed back to Seattle for another friend's wedding. It was just a short trip and we stayed with Lacy while Toby was out of town. Leyton started walking this month! Orange expands to Ohio! We open an office and a few of our Fort Worth people move to OH to run the project which now employs 42 contractors. Scott starts traveling between FW, Kansas, and Ohio :(

August:  Orange moves to a larger office in North Richland Hills. I hosted/co-hosted two baby showers for dear friends having baby boys in the fall. We were invited to a multi billionaire's 60th birthday party. It was amazing! The Blues Brothers and Eagles performed. We got home really late so Leyton had his first sleepover with Grammy and Grandpa. We traveled to Seattle the last week of August and stayed through Labor Day. We spent one day in Vancouver at Stanley Park. We went to the Woodland Park Zoo and had delicious scones at the Evergreen State Fair. I went kayaking with Lacy and her friend and Toby and Lacy hosted a cookout for everyone. We briefly considered renting a second home in Seattle and spent a little time touring a few potential places. We decided to post-pone that decision for the time being and its a good thing we did!

September:  Scott turned the big 3-0 and I surprised him with a weekend in NYC. We stayed on the Upper East side just a few blocks from Central Park. We did the express tour of NYC. We saw Times Square, Ground Zero, FAO Schwartz, Central Park, Rockefeller Center and several other places. We ate NY pizza, bagels and hotdogs from a street vendor. It was a fabulous weekend just the two of us! Leyton and I stated going to a playgroup organized through our church and we love it. September 19 we found out we were going to have another baby!

October:  My mom and I made Leyton a Peter Pan Halloween costume that turned out so cute. Scott and I dressed as Dexter and Debra Morgan for a friend's Halloween party. We had wood floors installed in Scott's office and everywhere upstairs except the media room. It took two and half days and made a huge mess in the house but we are so glad to have that major project done! We took Leyton trick-or-treating to a few friend's houses for the first time. He got the whole door-knocking-for-candy thing down pretty quickly. By the end of October I started to get a baby bump. Orange picks up a job in West Texas. Scott quits working for the firm he started the year with and starts a law firm with two other partners.

November:  We spent the second week of November in Seattle. This time we rented a gorgeous modern home in Magnolia. I was so obsessed with the house that I didn't go anywhere the first day we were there. There was no need! It was a perfect getaway. We cooked dinner at the house. Walked to the park. Played with friends who live one street over. It felt like we actually lived there! Scott was still working so it was just like any other week except in a different city. We went to the aquarium, had dinner with friends, took a day trip to Forks and drove to Snoqualmie Falls. We told our friends our baby news and found out Cari and Warren are due the week after us! When we got back we shared our baby news with everyone. The week of Thanksgiving my mom, Leyton and I spent a few days in Baytown with my grandparents. It is always so nice to be there and to hang out with them. We had Thanksgiving at my parents house and Scott's sister's family joined us since his parents were out of town. Why do we only have that meal one time a year??? So so so good. The day after Thanksgiving we went to the Fort Worth Parade of Lights. Leyton was so good at waving to all the floats and especially the horses. The parade is definitely going to be a family Christmas tradition.

December:  The firm gets an office in Dallas. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary on the 6th with a low-key dinner out. The next weekend we had Christmas with Scott's family at our house since they were going to be out-of-town for Christmas. We also did a family Christmas photo shoot with our fav photographers. Scott traded in his truck for a Yukon XL Denali. We needed a little more space for another baby and room to take all of the dogs somewhere at once. So far we love it! We went to Baytown the following weekend for the annual Adams family Christmas party.  I turned 27 on the 19th and we celebrated by visiting the ICE exhibit at the Gaylord. Our dinner plans didn't quite work out so we went back a few days later for dinner and to stay the night (a surprise to me).  Leyton got the stomach bug and was throwing up throughout the night while we were there. It sucked. We did not get much sleep. Scott saved all of his shopping for Christmas Eve Eve so I went to the mall with him and got my nails done and shopped while he was doing his thing. On Christmas Eve we went to church then went to my parents for dinner. Christmas morning we got L up and let him check out his new toys (a slide, basketball goal, and work bench). Scott had been sick the night before and I wasn't feeling too good so we took our time doing breakfast, stockings and gifts. Scott got me a Burberry trench coat and scarf, a foot massager and sound machine for sleeping among other things. We've been snoozing' to ocean waves ever since! Our best gift came a few days after Christmas when we found out Leyton is going to have a little brother! I also went to the spa this week and we had a dinner/movie date while Leyton spent the night with my parents. Today was so nice we took the dogs to the dog park.

Orange ends the year with four clients, five projects in three states and 142 contractors. The law firm is doing well with one client and 18 attorneys. The success of Orange has been a major highlight of our year. We never imagined it to grow like it has and we are excited to see what the new year has in store for us!

We are in Seattle this week!!! We are staying at The Woodmark Hotel on Lake Washington. Seriously. It. Is. Awesome! We were greeted with champagne and they have the most adorable labradoodle perusing the lobby. I'm excited to get out and explore the area tomorrow. We are doing a family photo shoot here on Wednesday so I'll be scouting the property for locations. More to come...

Meet Our Newest Pup

Meet Zoey.

The newest addition to our brood is a one and half year old female black lab. We adopted her from friends who needed to find her a new home and we love her! She is very sweet and smart and gets along perfectly with Dixie, Dollie, and Cash. She has more energy than all three of them combined! She LOVES to play fetch and we're pretty sure we can teach her to retrieve from the water once the pool is done. She hasn't quite learned all of the rules around here yet (like no dogs on the bed unless invited) but we've only had her a week so she's got time to learn. We are so happy we could give her a good home and look forward to the joy she will bring to our family in the years ahead.

Leyton {9 & 10 months}

Leyton at 10 months is so engaged, so happy, and SO much a boy! And a big one at that. At our 9 month appointment he was 27.5 lbs and 31 3/4 inches. This momma has some very strong arms!

He's still crawling but can stand unassisted and can even bend to pick up things and stand back up without losing his balance. We have a feeling his first steps are in the VERY near future. He's been working on cutting his top teeth for awhile now but they have not yet broken through. He can drink out of a straw and still loves to feed himself. Yogurt just might be his favorite food as I cannot feed it to him fast enough. He's wearing size 18-24 months in clothes and we've retired all of his onesies :( He looks and acts like a big boy so we try to dress him as such. He loves bath time and showers too!

He just love him to death! I think we have a very confident little boy. He loves to explore and has no fear of strangers. In fact, he loves anyone who talks and smiles at him. He's very good at imitating sounds or motions we make and we swear he said "doggie" the other night :) He laughs A LOT. He'll stare at seemingly nothing and just giggle. Here's our big boy at 9 and 10 months...
